Civics for All, the Seal of Civic Readiness, and Participatory Budgeting at Quest to Learn

Quest to Learn is proud to partner with Civics for All and the New York State Education Department to provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop and demonstrate their civic knowledge, skills, and engagement. Through this partnership, students can earn the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness, a prestigious recognition of their commitment to civic participation and understanding. The Class of 2025 was our first to earn this distinction, marking an exciting milestone in our school’s mission to empower students as active, informed citizens. In addition to the Seal program, Quest to Learn has implemented Participatory Budgeting in Schools, a cornerstone initiative of Civics for All that allows students to directly decide how a portion of the school’s budget is spent. By researching community needs, proposing projects, and voting on funding decisions, students experience democracy in action—learning that their voices truly shape their school and community.

Generation Citizen:

Turning Civic Learning into Action

Through our partnership with Generation Citizen, a national nonprofit organization, Quest to Learn students move beyond studying civics to actively practicing it. In this hands-on program, students identify pressing issues in their communities—such as environmental challenges, equity concerns, or local infrastructure needs—and work collaboratively to research, propose, and advocate for sustainable solutions. This experience not only connects classroom learning to real-world impact but also fosters a deep sense of civic agency and responsibility. By engaging with policymakers, presenting their ideas, and reflecting on the change-making process, Quest to Learn students develop the confidence and skills to become lifelong participants in our democracy.

Middle School

At Quest to Learn, we believe in the power of teamwork, discipline, and school spirit! Our middle school sports program offers students the opportunity to stay active, build confidence, and develop leadership skills—all while having fun. With a variety of team and individual sports throughout the year, every student has a chance to get involved and shine on and off the field. Through our partnership with Manhattan Youth each season we can offer sports that the students show interest in. All students are accepted onto the teams and can compete VS other middle schools across the city thanks to the MSAL.

Upper School

Sports are an important part of student life at Quest to learn, promoting leadership, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Our student-athletes compete in a variety of PSAL sports, representing NYC with pride and determination. From basketball to bowling, soccer to volleyball, our teams strive for excellence on and off the field. Whether you're an experienced player or trying a sport for the first time, there's a place for you here. Quest offers their own basketball team through the NYSAA sports league to encourage all students to join a team and feel a sense of community. This past 2024-2025 Quest won the championship Basketball title!
